In 2023\, the U.S. Surgeon General declared an epidemic of loneliness and isolation\, warning that its impact on health is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.\n\nThe data is clear: disconnection is linked to a wide range of adverse outcomes—from depression and anxiety to heart disease\, cognitive decline\, and reduced lifespan. It also drives up healthcare costs through unnecessary doctor visits and emergency room use.\n\nJoin Dr. Nancy Connolly\, a practicing physician and the founding Executive Director for Community Health and Wellbeing at the U.S. Chamber of Connection\, for a conversation about how the healthcare sector must lead in building systemic solutions to this growing crisis—and reverse the decline in social connection within the next decade. DESCRIPTION:Date & Location\nFriday\, October 4\, 2024\, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM\, Volney Richmond Auditorium\, Seattle\, WA \nOverview\nIn the United States\, Seattle and Tacoma are two of the leading cities with the highest percentage of individuals identifying as LGBTQIA+. As a nation\, the population of individuals identifying as LGBTQIA+ has continued to increase over the last three decades. While many medical school and residency programs have increased their education on LGBTQIA+ issues\, many medical professionals have had little\, to no exposure to information about critical topics in the care of this population. \nThis course seeks to provide participants with knowledge on specific aspects of care for the gay\, lesbian\, bisexual\, intersex\, and transgender population. Based on previous course feedback\, we’ve expanded the focus on updates in the medical and surgical care of this patient population\, particularly on sexual health\, cancer screening\, and medical history-taking. \nThis course is appropriate for physicians and advanced practice providers of all clinical disciplines\, as well as nurses and other healthcare workers. \n  \nObjectives\nAt the conclusion of this activity\, participants should be able to:\n  \n\nDiscuss informed consent model of gender-affirming care\, including expected changes and potential side effects\nSummarize the components of facial feminization and masculinization surgery\, the rationale behind each procedure\, and the risks and anticipated side effects associated with each for effective shared decision making\nExplain how childhood experiences affect the development of lesbians\nReview in-practice appropriate screening\, treatment and prevention of STIs in the LGBTQ+ community\nRecite a brief overview of how HIV can be managed by primary care clinicians in partnership with specialty care\nCreate awareness regarding prevalence of opioid use disorder and stimulant use disorder among LGBTQ+ and the factors contributing to prevalence\nReview social context and determinants of health and barriers to successful aging for LGBTQ+ elders\n\n  \nRegistration\nRegister to attend this course in person or participate via livestream: \n$185.00 – Attend in person\, includes box lunch.\n$160.00 – Attend via Livestream – link will be provided. \nOnline registration will be open through Wednesday\, October 2\, 2024.
