FULL MEMBERS

Active Members of King County Medical Society are those persons who hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as an active Washington medical license in good standing. Active members are granted the full rights and privileges of the Society, including the rights to vote and hold office.

Associate members are those persons who hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine who may not have a current license to practice medicine but are employed full-time in the medical field. Medical researchers, active US military personnel, faculty members at accredited medical school, or an employee of a state or local health department can be Associate Members and granted the full rights and privileges of the Society, including the rights to vote and hold office. 

Membership for physicians who hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as an active Washington medical license in good standing but whose local county medical society has folded or is not active. Unified members shall have all rights and privileges of an active member, including the rights to vote and hold office.

Persons who hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and in their first and second year of actively practicing medicine are considered Newly Practicing Members. They have the same rights and privileges of active members, including the rights to vote and hold office. 

A retired member is one who has been qualified for active membership, who has retired from active practice and who has been a member in good standing in the Society. A retired member shall have all rights and privileges of an active member, including the rights to vote and hold office.

Persons who hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and are in their residency or fellowship can be active members. Residents and Fellows have the same rights and privileges of active members, including the rights to vote and hold office. 

AFFILIATE MEMBERS

Medical Student members are full-time students enrolled in an accredited medical school. Student members are entitled to Society member privileges but do not hold the rights to vote or hold office. 

For purposes of membership, “medical students’ are defined as those person who are a full-time student making satisfactory progress toward the attainment of the degree of Doctor of Medicine from a medical school program that is accredited by The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), part of the U.S. Department of Education, leading to the M.D. degree in the United States, or The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), leading to a D.O. degree in the United States.

Business Affiliate Members are affiliates of King County Medical Society through sponsorship, donations or gifts in kind at a minimum level of $10,000 annually. Business Members are allowed access to King County Medical Society events and website presence (TBD), but do not hold the rights to vote or hold office.
