I have a long-standing interest in the social determinants of health that started with a research fellowship in Hiroshima, Japan, as a medical student. I remain active with our medical society even after retiring from practice because I believe that physicians have an obligation to work for a healthier society and a healthier planet so that all humans can live long and well.
